Health project for industrial workers

PONDICHERRY: The Rotary Club (Port) has, in collaboration with the Pondicherry Chamber of Industries, drawn up a scheme under its pilot health project to diagnose and screen workers attached to small, medium and large-scale industries in the Industrial Estate at Mettupalayam near here on September 23.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, club's president, B. Karthikeyan, said as a prelude to the health camp a team of doctors from the Pondicherry Government General Hospital would hold an awareness camp on September 9 for the managements' representatives.

The health camp and the training programme for the executive personnel was aimed at generating awareness among all sections of the industrial concerns the need to know of life-style related ailments. Around 3,000 workers would be covered under the health camp. They would be issued health cards to enable them to have treatment, if necessary, at the hospitals.
