Infosys to expand Czech operations

Bangalore: Infosys Technologies will expand its near shore operations at Brno in the Czech Republic by adding a new 350-seat facility that will double the capacity of its existing facilities by one hundred per cent.

The new centre will be opened in January 2007 and will continue to deliver Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and increase its capacity for IT services to its European customers, a company statement said here on

Wednesday.

The Brno facility was opened in 2004 to handle business processes such as sales order management, finance and accounts, market research and underwriting for clients across 16 European countries. In the new facility, the range of services offered will be expanded to cover IT services such as infrastructure management and package implementations such as ERP and CRM.

New tanker

Shell India on Wednesday launched high capacity petroleum tankers in India. The trucks have a fuel carrying capacity of 28 KL/35 KL and are expected to set new standards in road transportation of fuels.

Shell Executive Vice President (supply and distribution) Mark Williams said: "With a new fleet of world class fuel tankers, this is a positive demonstration of our commitment to safety standards in India."

The tankers are equipped with latest safety features such as ABS brakes, air suspensions, tubeless tyres and hand railing for working at heights with brake interlocks.

UPS system

Shining-Emotional Surplus, the Bangalore-based management consultancy, on Wednesday showcased its product design competency of a unique UPS system designed for WeP Peripherals. The design aims to move the UPS from its conventional below the working desk spot to become part of the working desktop. It has been incorporated with features such as a mobile phone charger, clock and a CD rack.

Award for Syndicate Bank

Syndicate Bank has won a special award for "use of IT for customer service in semi-urban and rural areas" from the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT).

The award was presented to C.P. Swarnkar, Chairman and Managing Director, Syndicate Bank by Y.V. Reddy, Governor, Reserve Bank of India.
