News Analysis
The sentence in "India, France `not very far' from nuclear pact" (September 5, 2006, page 1) was: "Indian officials told this correspondent that French company Aveva had reportedly completed a feasibility study to set up six nuclear plants in India." A reader wanted to know whether it was Aveva or Areva. Amit Baruah clarifies that it should have been Areva. Areva's website says that it is "a world energy expert, that offers its customers technological solutions for highly reliable nuclear power generation and electricity transmission and distribution." The Aveva Group plc is "one of the world's foremost and fastest-growing lifecycle engineering IT solutions and services providers to the oil and gas, pulp and paper, power, chemical, pharmaceutical and shipbuilding industries." In "How they love to stereotype Asians" (Op-Ed, September 6, 2006) on the Molly Campbell case the sentence was: "But this piece is not about the merits of the case (certainly, Mr. Rana was wrong in taking the girl with him without her legal guardian's conduct) but about a climate in which a family dispute in a little-known island can spark off a national media frenzy simply because of the religion and ethnicity of those involved." A reader questioned the use of the word "conduct". It should have been "consent".
