Marathon music concert

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The restoration of peace and harmony in the world is the focus of the World Peace Day, to be observed on September 21. In Chennai, cultural organisation Carnatica will be celebrating the World Peace Day as a part of its 10th anniversary celebrations.

Singers K.N. Shashikiran and P. Ganesh are set to perform a marathon vocal concert from the morning of September 9. The performance is an effort to create a record in classical vocal music. The September 9th concert, Mr. Shashikiran said, is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy, the tsunami and earthquakes, and civil conflicts in Lebanon and Sri Lanka, and the Mumbai blasts.

The musical marathon will start with the blessings of percussion maestro Umayalpuram Sivaraman at 9 a.m. at No. 9, Shirdi Towers, Arulambal Street, T. Nagar. The event, in which leading artists will accompany the duo, is open to the public. For details, call Carnatica at 9444018270/42124130, or e-mail carnaticas@yahoo.co.in
