Karunanidhi promises support for PMK venture

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday inaugurated `Makkal Tholaikaatchi', a television channel floated by the Pattali Makkal Katchi.

He underscored the need for preserving best values in public life and cultural regeneration of Tamils. He also emphasised that scientific tools should be employed for the betterment of Tamils.

PMK founder S. Ramadoss said the channel would highlight issues with a local flavour but it would not be a party organ. He wanted people to spot mistakes, if any, in the programmes telecast by the channel. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M. Krishnasswamy said Rajiv Gandhi had laid the foundation stone two decades ago for the development of the electronic and software sectors.

Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dayanidhi Maran said the new channel would give importance to issues concerning rural people.

Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said there was no place in the channel for obscenity and gender discrimination. PMK president G.K. Mani spoke.
