MADURAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Wednesday said the Democratic People's Alliance would continue for the local body elections. "We are always prepared for elections and the alliance will continue," she told reporters here. Ms. Jayalalithaa alleged that good quality rice meant for the public distribution system was being smuggled into neighbouring States. "Ration rice which is Rs. 2 a kg here is being sold at Rs.12 or Rs.14 in other States. The people in Tamil Nadu get rice that is not fit for consumption." On her trip to Andipatti, she said the people gave her an "affectionate" welcome. The AIADMK and its allies would launch an agitation condemning the lack of proper treatment for chikungunya in the State. Scores of party functionaries thronged the hotel on Alagarkoil Road where Ms. Jayalalithaa was staying. The VIP convoy was caught in a traffic jam outside the hotel where heavy vehicles were parked on both sides of the road.
