Lok Sabha constituencies get a new profile

Staff Reporter

All seven Parliamentary seats will now have 10 Assembly segments each with equal distribution of population

NEW DELHI: The proposed re-organisation of the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in the Capital is likely to change the entire political profile of the city including those of the sitting Members of Parliament and those planning to contest elections in the future. Unlike in the past, all seven Lok Sabha constituencies now would have 10 Assembly segments each with an equal distribution of voter profile and population.

The draft proposals that were approved during a meeting held at the residence of the Delimitation Commission Chairman, Justice Kuldeep Singh, this past weekend are likely to make things difficult for many political heads. For instance, the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency would now comprise the Assembly segments of Chandni Chowk, Adarsh Nagar, Shalimar Bagh, Wazirpur, Model Town, Sadar Bazar, Ballimaran, Matia Mahal, Shakurbasti and Trinagar.

The North-East Delhi parliamentary constituency would include Burari, Karawal Nagar, Mustafabad, Gokulpuri (reserved), Seelampur (reserved), Rohtas Nagar, Babarpur, Yamuna Vihar, Seemapuri and Timarpur.

The East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency would include Gandhi Nagar, Shahdara, Vishwas Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Paharganj, Okhla, Kondli (reserved), Trilokpuri (reserved) and Jangpura.

The New Delhi parliamentary constituency would include Karol Bagh (reserved), New Delhi, Rajinder Nagar, Patel Nagar (reserved), Moti Nagar, Delhi Cantonment, R.K.Puram, Kasturba Nagar, Greater Kailash and Malviya Nagar.

The North-West Delhi constituency would include the Assembly segments of Narela, Badli, Rohini, Bawana (reserved), Rithala, Mundka, Kirari, Sultanpuri (reserved), Nangloi Jat and Mangolpuri (reserved).

The West Delhi constituency would consist of Madipur (reserved), Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar, Vikaspuri, Najafgarh, Matiala, Uttam Nagar, Dwarka, Janakpuri and Hari Nagar.

The South Delhi seat will have Palam, Ambedkar Nagar (reserved), Mehrauli, Bijwasan, Chhattarpur, Devli (reserved), Sangam Vihar, Tughlakabad, Kalkaji and Badarpur.
