Mayor's reception

for teachers

NEW DELHI: The Mayor of Delhi, Farhad Suri, on Wednesday held a reception in honour of the teachers who received awards instituted by the civic body on the occasion of Teachers' Day on Tuesday.

Mr. Suri lauded the role of teachers in providing quality education to children studying in MCD schools. "The majority of children studying in municipal schools belong to the weaker sections of society and, therefore, the responsibility on the teachers increases manifold."

A special treat for

`special guests'

NEW DELHI: The Students' Council of St. Xavier's Senior Secondary School on Raj Niwas Marg here on Wednesday organised "September fest 2006", a day-long event for entertainment of orphans and physically and mentally challenged kids.

The school students treated these kids as "special guests". The events organised during the day included a magic show, games, cricket match and contests. The school Principal, Father Jose Philip, praised the students' efforts and asked them to continue helping underprivileged children.

NSUI plans rally to North Campus

NEW DELHI: The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) will take out a rally from Kalkaji to the North Campus here on Thursday on the eve of the polls to the Delhi University Students' Union.

According to an NSUI release, a meeting was convened by All-India Congress Committee secretary Jai Kishan on Wednesday that was attended by senior party leaders including Oscar Fernandes and Mukul Wasnik.

Exemption sought

New Delhi: A Central Forensic Science Laboratory officer (CFSL), who had examined the wire allegedly used in the murder of Indian Express journalist Shivani Bhatnagar, on Wednesday approached a Delhi court seeking exemption from deposing in the case saying his report was sufficient.

In an appilcation, filed before Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Rajender Kumar, Dr Swarup Vedanand, a prosecution witness employed as scientific officer at CFSL, Hyderabad, contended that his personal examination in the case was not necessary and the probe report was sufficient.

Water supply to be hit

NEW DELHI: Due to interconnection works on Wazirabad Road, water supply will not be available on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kartar Nagar, Jagjeet Nagar, Gamari Village, Vijai Colony, Bhajanpura A and B Block, Jaiprakash Nagar, Sudamapuri, Gautam Vihar, Chand Bagh and Nehru Vihar.

According to a Delhi Jal Board release, water tankers will be available on telephone Nos. 22812683 and 22814399.
