CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has called upon soldiers of the 2nd Battalion of the Sikh Regiment to emulate the saga of countless heroic deeds which found no parallels during its precious legacy spanning over 150 years. In his address on the occasion of the 41st Battle Honour Day (Raja Day celebrations) to honour the war widows, Capt. Singh, who is a scion of the royal family of the erstwhile princely State of Patiala, said that it was a matter of great elation for him to participate in the historic moment as he had also been a part of this regiment like his grandfather, Maharaja Bhupendra Singh, and father, Maharaja Yadvindera Singh. Capt. Singh said that the regiment had done the country proud in safeguarding its unity and integrity and was still in the forefront among the Indian armed forces for its commitment and dedication. Capt. Singh presented a cheque for Rs.51,000 and Rs.25,000 as a financial grant each to the 30 "Veer Naries" (war widows) and 42 battle casualties on behalf of the Punjab Government.
