KOTTAYAM: N. Vineeth lashed an unbeaten double century (227) as Pathanamthitta made merry against host Kottayam on the opening day of the two-day South Zone under-22 inter-district cricket tournament at the Medical College ground on Wednesday. Vineeth and S. Aneesh (55) helped Pathanamthitta pile up 429 in just 70 overs. Jiss K. Jacob was the most successful bowler for the host with four for 66. In reply, Kottayam was struggling at 41 for two at stumps. At the Nehru stadium, Kollam bowlers wrested the advantage after an indifferent batting performance against Alappuzha. Medium-pacer Kevin Osar ripped through the Kollam batting line-up with five for 51 as it was dismissed for 182 in its first innings. But Zulfikar jr.and Sunil Shyam shared four wickets among themselves to reduce Alappuzha to 104 for six in 34 overs at stumps. The scores: Pathanamthita 439 in 69.5 overs (N. Vineeth 227 not out, S. Aneesh 55, Jiss K. Jacob four for 66, Jithin Francis three for 117) v Kottayam 41 for two in 18 overs. Kollam 182 in 56.1 overs (Adarsh Prince 42, Bhagath Soman 32, Sunil Kumar 29, Kevin Oscar five for 61) v Alappuzha 104 for six in 34 overs.
Yasmin wins title
Yasmin Mary Jose of The Choice School, Kochi, won the girls' 100m breaststroke event in the under-19 section of the CBSE South Zone swimming meet, organised by DAV (Velachery) at the SDAT-Velachery Complex in Chennai on Wednesday.
