Religious tangle: TTD chief meets Udupi pontiff

SEEKING BLESSINGS: TTD chairman B. Karunakar Reddy with the pontiff of Udupi Pejawar Mutt Sri Visweswara Theertha Swamiji in Bangalore on Wednesday.

TIRUPATI: Chairman of the TTD Trust Board B. Karunakar Reddy called on the pontiff of Sri Udipi Pejawar Mutt, Sri Visweswara Theertha at Bangalore on Wednesday and sought his blessings for the agenda he has set for himself after his nomination to the coveted post recently.

Reddy's meeting with the swamiji assumes importance in the context of a campaign the pontiff had spearheaded a couple of months ago against the alleged evangelic activities on the Tirumala hills.

According to reports reaching here, the Chairman has taken the opportunity to explain to the swamiji the steps being taken by the TTD not only to set at rest the controversy but also for the protection and promotion of the Hindu dharma and Srinivasa cult by increasing manifold the budget allocation to the TTD's Dharma Prachara Parishat. Sources said the Chairman has invited the seer to visit Tirumala for the annual Brahmothsavams.
