RATION CARDS: Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa distributing ration cards at a function at Guddekal near Shimoga on Wednesday.

SHIMOGA: Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa on Wednesday said that all 3.68 lakh eligible families in the district would get new ration cards within four months.

Speaking at a function after distributing ration cards at Guddekal near here, he said the process was on for issuing temporary coupons to enable eligible families to get their quota under the public distribution system till they were issued the permanent cards.

He promised that all families would get these coupons within 15 days.

Mr. Eshwarappa asked eligible families not to worry if they did not get the temporary coupons in a routine way. They could approach the office of the Food and Civil Supplies with the applications to get them, he added.

He said temporary coupons were charged at Rs. 5 each and the permanent ration cards at Rs. 35 each.

He asked beneficiaries not to give more money if the officials or agents demanded it.

Assistant Director of Food and Civil Supplies P. Shivanna said the survey to identify eligible families for issuing the ration cards was on, and added that the "Akshaya, Annapoorna, Antyodaya and APL" would be distributed soon.

He said the distribution process was being conducted in a transparent manner without giving scope for misuse.

Convenor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha Suvarna Shankar Mohan Reddy and Municipal Commissioner Jayanna were present.

D.R. Vishwanath welcomed the gathering.
