HYDERABAD: Want to pursue a glittering career? Get set then to know the four Cs -- colour, cut, clarity and carat weight -- to be able to grade and distinguish between a natural and synthetic diamond. With the domestic trade and exports growing annually by 18 per cent, there is a dire need for well-trained professionals in grading and appraising diamonds. In a bid to meet this increasing demand for experts, a six-day course is being organised at the Small Industries Service Institute here from September 11.
Imran Shareef, a reputed diamond grader who qualified from the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) and High Commission of Rough Diamonds, Antwerp, Belgium, will conduct the course.
Depth in grading
New York-based Shareef who is working with Layan jewellers told The Hindu that 90 per cent diamond sellers lacked depth in grading and appraising. A person who receives a certificate at the course would get a minimum of Rs. 40,000 as salary. He has conducted three courses here and trained 130 persons, including 70 jewellers. The others include geologists, doctors and engineers and women.
