Kakinada : East Godavari Collector M. Surbrahmanyam has made it clear that under no circumstances would quarrying be permitted within a 500-metre distance of the Yeleru reservoir project. Addressing quarry owners, officials of Mines and Geology, Irrigation, Police and Revenue departments at his camp office on Monday, he said the project would be endangered if quarrying is done within 500 metres distance . Pointing out the Yeleru reservoir project was constructed to cater to the irrigation requirement of the ayacut besides supplying water for the Visakhapatnam steel plant, Simhadri power project and to meet the drinking water needs of Vizag city, the collector said any action endangering the project would not be tolerated.
