Meet on space technology utilisation

  • Government officials to interact with Department of Space personnel
  • To help preparation of perspective plans

    Thiruvananthapuram: Officials from various Government departments will interact with the personnel of Department of Space at a workshop here on September 15 to discuss plans for optimum utilisation of space technology for the development of the State.

    The workshop, organised by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), in association with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), will provide a forum for scientists and officials to exchange ideas on the preparation of perspective plans in various sectors till 2010.

    The user departments, including the departments of Health, Education, Industries, Planning and Local Self-Government, and Fisheries and Disaster Management, will present papers on the utilisation of space services and the benefits derived.

    Thrust areas

    The thrust areas identified for the workshop are groundwater studies, soil mapping, land use and land cover studies, village resource centres and weather forecast services.

    Delegates from public and private undertakings, academic institutions and research organisations are expected to participate.

    Technical sessions

    Technical sessions will cover application of space technology in tele education and telemedicine, development of industries, utilisation of emerging opportunities in aerospace and remote sensing applications.

    Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the workshop at a function at Mascot Hotel here. He will also launch the Tele Health and Medical Education (TH&ME) project, Kerala, at the telemedicine facility at Medical College.
