Mohammed panel may submit report tomorrow

Staff Reporter

Hearing concluded; sitting today to finalise report

  • Government alleges malpractices by private colleges
  • `Merit not considered for admissions'

Kochi: The Admission Supervisory Committee, headed by the former High Court judge P.A. Mohammed, is expected to submit its final report to the Government on Friday.

The committee will hold a sitting on Thursday to finalise the report.

The committee had last week concluded its hearing into the complaints pertaining to the entrance test conducted by the consortium of private self-financing medical college managements for 50 per cent management seats in the colleges.

    Government stand

The Government had argued that the managements had given admission to students without considering merit. The managements contended that the admission was made after conducting the test and interview.

The Government had also contended that the private managements had toppled the single-window system proposed by the Supreme Court in the Inamdar case.

The students were made to buy separate applications from different colleges.

The Government questioned the logic of making students buy separate applications while the consortium was conducting the single entrance examination.

The Government also charged that many anomalies could be noticed in the marklists submitted by the various private medical colleges and marks given in the interview list submitted by the consortium through its examination controller.
