ADILABAD: Nearly 100 idols of Lord Ganesha were taken out in a colourful centralised procession in Adilabad town marking the culmination of the 11-day festival here on Wednesday. Collector R. Subba Rao flagged off the shobha yatra of the idols at Vinayak chowk. He urged people to observe Ganesh nimajjanam amid friendship and brotherhood. The centralised procession and other festivities were organised by the Hindu Samaj Utsav Samiti of Adilabad. Adilabad Superintendent of Police Kripanand Tripathi Ujela, chief guest Rajesh Pasine of Nagpur, Samiti president Praful H. Vaze and secretary Goli Tirupati and others attended the flag off ceremony. Policemen were present in adequate numbers to ensure the event passed off peacefully. Starting from respective localities the idols slowly converged into the main procession at Ambedkar chowk from where they were taken to Penganga river for immersion.
Tight security
Nizamabad Staff Reporter adds: Vinayaka Shobha Yatra in and around the town began amidst tight security from Dubba on Wednesday afternoon. The Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandali representative, Bantu Posetty inaugurated the yatra by flagging off a specially decorated chariot carrying Vinayak idols. The traditional chariot was dragged by 36 pairs of bullocks and also some youth. Minister for Rural Development, D. Srinivas, Mayor, D. Sanjay, Collector, I.S. Sri Naresh, Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Chandra Laddha and leaders of different political parties attended.
Yatra route
The yatra proceeded through Prabhat Talkies, Lalitha Mahal, Old Ganj, Nehru Park, Shambuni Gudi, Bharkatpura and Gurudwara and Gol Hanuman to immerse the idols in Vinayakula Bhavi at Vinayknagar. Muslim minorities as usual arranged drinking water and distributed fruits to participants in the yatra by erecting tents at Nehru Park and Pavan theatre chowrasta. In all, over 1,000 small and big idols were installed during in and around the town.
Boy injured
NALGONDA: A fifth class student was grievously injured when a cracker fell on him during the procession of Ganesh idols in Miryalaguda on Wednesday.
