MYSORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has accused the Congress of making a vain bid to split the Janata Dal (Secular) and topple the coalition Government ahead of its recent rally in Bangalore. Addressing presspersons at Dadada Kallahalli village in Mysore taluk on Wednesday, Mr. Kumaraswamy said some Congress leaders tried to woo MLAs from the Janata Dal (S) and other parties to join their party and attend the rally addressed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. But they failed miserably in their efforts. Mr. Kumaraswamy referred to the Congress leaders' claims of certain "political developments" during the run up to the rally in Bangalore and said their designs to split the Janata Dal (S) did not succeed. "The coalition Government is safe and stable. It is not possible for them to bring down the Government," Mr. Kumaraswamy said. Mr. Kumaraswamy made it clear that the Janata Dal (S) would not organise counter rallies in the State. "We are not interested in holding such rallies of hired crowds," he said. However, he said, Janata Dal (S) president H.D. Deve Gowda, who was touring the State to strengthen the party, would hold public meetings in four revenue divisions of the State. The Chief Minister accused former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of "hijacking" the All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) from former Chief Minister S.R. Bommai before joining the Congress. Participating in a function at Saligrama in K.R. Nagar taluk, Mr. Kumaraswamy warned government officials that stringent action would be taken against them if they did not discharge their duties in a proper way. Addressing presspersons in Mandya en-route to Mysore on Tuesday night, Mr. Kumaraswamy said he had urged the Centre to amend the forest laws with a view to curbing the naxalite menace. Minister in-charge of Mysore district D.T. Jayakumar, Mysore MP C.H. Vijayshankar, Hunsur MLA G.T. Deve Gowda, and Deputy Commissioner Selva Kumar accompanied the Chief Minister.
