TNCC invites Sonia for regional meets

Special Correspondent

To be held at Gopichettipalayam, Tirunelveli, Vellore

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee will organise three regional conferences in the State and has invited party president Sonia Gandhi to participate in one of them.

TNCC president M.Krishnasswamy told reporters here on Wednesday that the conferences would be organised at Gopichettipalayam, Tirunelveli and Vellore.

He asked AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa to clarify whether her earlier demand to ban the MDMK for its support to the LTTE still held good.

When reporters asked Mr.Krishnasswamy whether the same rule was applicable to the Pattali Makkal Katchi, he said the PMK was only supporting the "suffering Tamils" in Sri Lanka.

The Congress would not hesitate to demand action against the PMK if it openly supported the LTTE.

Criticising PMK leader S.Ramadoss for his attack on Congress leader M.Veerappa Moily, he said Mr.Moily had implemented many welfare schemes for the benefit of the backward classes when he was in power in Karnataka. He warned that the TNCC would not keep quiet if the PMK resorted to any agitation against Mr.Moily during his visit to the State.
