Gujarat handloom, handicraft exhibition

CHENNAI : Gujarat State Handloom, Handicraft Emporium has organised an exclusive exhibition featuring Gujarati traditional works at Sankara Hall, Alwarpet, much to the delight of handiworks buffs.

Besides `Bandhini' and block print textiles, the expo showcases embroidery of different styles. Applique or Katab, which is a form of needlework from Bhuj, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar districts, is also on display.

Leather articles such as cushion cover, bags and slippers are also available. The jewellery section features Gujarati heavy style jewellery in gold and silver from Rajkot and North Gujarat and necklaces and bangles made of beads. Beadwork decorative items such as wall hangings are also on display.

The vibrantly coloured, handpainted puppets and beadwork dolls will attract children. A discount of 20 per cent is offered on textiles and 10 per cent on handicraft items.

The exhibition, which is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., is on till September 14.
