Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in the following areas on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work. Supply will be resumed before 5 p.m. if the work is completed. Areas are: parts of M.R.C. Nagar, Nolambur, Gopalapuram, Triplicane and Anna Nagar (Blocks A, B; 7th and 8th street and Crescent Road). On Friday, the supply will be suspended for the same period in parts of Whites Road, Mandaveli VIII and IX Trust Cross Street, nearby roads including Mada Church Street, parts of Kondithope and Vallalar Nagar areas.

Oratorical competition

Srinivas Young Men's Association (SYMA) will conduct an oratorical competition for college students on Sunday in lieu of Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathi's death anniversary. It will be conducted at Bharathiyar Illam, Triplicane. The association has sent circulars to city colleges. Interested students could call 99400 86026 or 99402 22111.

Birth anniversary

`Kappalotiya Tamizhan' V.O. Chidambaranar's 135th birth anniversary was celebrated at Chennai Port on Tuesday. State Ministers N. Arcot Veerasamy, K. Venkatachalapathy, Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, T.M. Anbarasan and senior Port Trust officials garlanded the statue of the illustrious freedom fighter and paid tributes.

Temple festival

`Vidaiyarri Uthsavam' will be celebrated from 7th to 9th September at Sri Oppiliappan Pattabhisheka Ramar Temple, Ram Nagar (north) Puzhuthivakkam. Concerts of Nisha.P. Rajagopal, Charulatha Mani and Subhashini Parthasarathy will be held as part of the celebration. Pushpa pallakku is scheduled to be held at 8 p.m. on 9th September.

Alumni association

The annual general body meeting of MCC Alumni Association will be held on September 16, 6 p.m. at Madras Race Club, Guindy followed by annual reunion dinner.

Kumbabhishekam

Kumbabhishekam of Sarva Siddhi Srilakshmi Vinayagar and Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar temple (Adambakkam) will be performed on September 10 between 10.30 a.m. and noon. For further details, call 98412 18682 or 24769347.

Yoga workshop

The K.K. Nagar centre of the `Art of Living' is organising a yoga workshop from September 11 to 16 at Padma Seshadri K.K. Nagar from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. A free introductory talk will be organised.

Free eye camp

The Hindu Mission Hospital organised a free eye screening camp on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon at Pallavaram. Nearly 120 patients attended the camp. 23 were referred for free IOL surgery.

An ophthalmologist and a refractionist examined the patients.
