Commodity prices

The following were the rates (Rs. per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale market on Wednesday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Groundnut oil-57.50, Palmolein oil - 46, Sunflower oil-55, Tamarind (flower variety) 28 to 31, Chillies -49 to 54, Rice (2716)-14, Rice (superfine)-15, Rice (sona masoori)-18 to 19, Rice (samba masoori)-16, Black gram-49, Red gram-26 to 32.50.

Takes charge

V.L. Chandini Kumari on Wednesday took charge as principal of SRR & CVR Government Degree College. She joined the service in 1975 as junior lecturer in Prattikonda Government College in Kurnool district and was transferred to SRR & CVR College in 1978.

Training programme

Project officer of the Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Corporation for the Disabled K. Venkata Rantam on Wednesday said that the corporation would provide all sorts of help to the disabled. He was the chief guest at the inauguration of the special training for the disabled in job-oriented courses, organised by the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) at Kasi Visweswara Bhavan in Industrial Estate. He said that the training would help the disabled to eke out a livelihood on their own. They could also apply for loans under post-training assistance scheme after completion of their course, he said.

Director of the JSS N. Vidya Kanna presided over the programme.

`Reconnection mela'

Vijayawada telecom district of BSNL will conduct a `Reconnection Mela' at the Industrial Estate telephone exchange premises near Autonagar gate from 9 a.m. onwards on Thursday. Customers of landline phones in Autonagar, Industrial Estate and Gunadala exchanges, whose telephones were disconnected for non-payment of dues, can avail themselves of the offer. Facilities like waiver of rent for the non-working period and payment of dues in easy instalments will be provided to customers.
