Couple run over by Air Force Academy bus

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A couple riding a two-wheeler was crushed to death when a bus belonging to the Dindigul Air Force Academy ran over them in Bowenpally, early on Wednesday morning.

According to the Bowenpally police, Somaiah, 39, and Anuradha, 28, residents of L. B. Nagar, were going to a private hospital in Jeedimetla to see an ailing relative when they were mowed down by the bus near the narrow Chinnathokatta culvert at 9 a.m.

The bus was on its daily trip from Secunderabad railway station to the Air Force Academy.

Sub Inspector M.V. Sridhar, who rushed to the spot, said the couple died on the spot. Somaiah, a telecom mechanic, was wearing a helmet but such was the impact that it broke.

The police registered a case under Section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (Rash and negligent driving) against bus driver K. Deepu Goud, a contract employee of the AFA.

The bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for autopsy.
