Hyderabad: How does the digestive system work? What is Mitosis? Students can now see this elegant process that enables organisms to grow and reproduce. For more details they can just click the links and see how the intestines and gallbladder work or know the several steps comprising cell division. Government schools in Ranga Reddy district are in for a qualitative change in the way lessons are taught. It's time to say goodbye to learning by rote. Students here will now be learning their lessons through animation technology. To start with, nine high schools in Shamshabad mandal will be experimenting with animation education. It will now be fun to learn difficult-to-comprehend subjects like physics, chemistry, biology and zoology. The new technology will be provided to classes VIII, IX and X benefiting about 1,300 students. "By next month the system will be inaugurated," Ranga Reddy Collector L. Premchandra Reddy told The Hindu .
Lesson plan
Several students have difficulty visualising what is being taught, particularly subjects relating to science. Animation technology is expected to help them get a better grasp of the subject. It will also change the way lessons are taught and understood. To bring this new technology, a group of teachers has worked during the school vacation looking up search engines and identifying the best websites. Another group of teachers is now trying to convert the information into lesson plan. "Animation will be introduced at the right place by teachers. There is also an audio component. Teachers can use the sound or mute and explain the subject themselves," Mr. Reddy said. He said computers would be installed in schools and teachers trained in handling them. Once the system stabilises, animation education would be introduced to primary classes also. There are 400 high schools in Ranga Reddy and they would be covered in phased manner, the Collector said.
