Five students held on ragging charge

Srikakaulam: A bizarre instance of ragging in which six senior students (all boys) of GMR Information Technology Institute, Rajam, allegedly sexually assaulted two-second year students of mechanical engineering (both boys) and subjected them to humiliation, including videographing of the unnatural act, came to light on Wednesday.

Complaint lodged

According to Circle Inspector of Police, K. Tirumala Rao, on a complaint from one of the victims, five of the accused persons -- Vijayabhaskar, Vijayababu, Ravi, Ramesh and Krishna Chaitanya -- were arrested on charges of ragging and indulging in unlawful activities (Section 377). Santosh, their alleged accomplice, is at large.

According to the police, all the accused are from well to do families.

The arrested would be produced in court on Thursday. The bizarre activities were allegedly carried out in the Anjali complex of the institute on Monday night and Tuesday.

Menial jobs

According to the police, the victims were also forced to do menial jobs.
