Bar Council seeks stipend for junior lawyers
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh has appealed to the Centre to implement at the earliest a scheme for giving stipend of Rs. 2,000 to junior lawyers, as suggested recently by the national body.
A. Narasimha Reddy, chairman, said in a press release that, as suggested by the Bar Council of India, any lawyer, below 25 years, who is enrolled with the State Bar Council and member of the Bar Association in which he is practising, will be eligible.
According to the release, the age limit in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates will be 27 and their families' annual income should not exceed Rs. 2 lakhs.
He said the stipend, a pressing need of junior advocates, is to be given to those lawyers who are with the bar for at least two years from the date they actually start practice in courts.
