HYDERABAD: Hyderabad MRTS Project Director N.V.S. Reddy has said that the curvature at the Rajiv Gandhi statue is of 70-metre radius and not 95 metres as published in these columns on Wednesday. For metro running on standard gauge, the peak curvature is 120 metres and only Hong Kong Metro had achieved a steep curvature of 95 metres radius. The steeper the angle, the lesser the speed by which the trains can be run. Mr. Reddy said that it would be 200 metres curvature for a train running on a broad gauge, which would mean the number of demolitions, would rise. Hence, the Group of Union Ministers had recommended the States, including Andhra Pradesh, going for metro rails, to opt for the standard gauge, he pointed out. Since Line 1 (Miyapur-Chaitanyapuri) will be crossing over the Punjagutta flyover (under construction), it will also pass overhead of Line 3 (Tarnaka -Hi-Tec City) and will be built side by side for about 300 metres before converging at the combined Ameerpet station. Further, the old route map for Line 3 via Punjagutta - Banjara Hills was erroneously published and instead, the changed route will be via Ameerpet-Madhuranagar - Yousufguda - Jubilee Hills.
