Four Govt. employees arrested for graft

NEW DELHI: Four Government employees, including two Delhi Police personnel, have been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch on charges of demanding and receiving bribes.

On Tuesday, the Anti-Corruption Branch received a complaint from Inderjeet Singh, a resident of Govindpuri in South Delhi, alleging that Hari Ram, the driver of a DTC bus, was demanding Rs. 100 per day from him for not overtaking his Blueline bus deliberately, which resulted in financial loss for him as passengers would get on to the DTC bus. .

In another case reported on Monday, Ashok Sharma alleged that Head Constable Hans Raj and Constable Vasudev of the Delhi police were demanding Rs. 5,000 for not serving a recovery letter and an arrest warrant purportedly issued by the Assistant Collector (Recovery) of the Sales Tax Department.

A safai karamchari with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was arrested on Monday following allegations that he, posing as Area Health Inspector, had received Rs. 10,000 as illegal gratification from two shopkeepers from Jangpura in South Delhi for getting them trade licences last year.

ASI, student allegedly commit suicide

NEW DELHI: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted with the Kashmere Gate police station allegedly hanged himself to death at his Prashant Vihar residence in North-West Delhi on Wednesday.

Fifty-year-old Mahendra Singh was on leave since August 25. The police recovered a suicide note from the spot, in which he purportedly wrote that no one should be held responsible for his death. In another case, a 21-year-old polytechnic student, Vishwas, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his Civil Lines residence in North Delhi. Vishwas lived with his grandfather and uncle, while his brother worked in Dubai. All his expenses were being borne by his brother.

Man held in abduction, robbery cases

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old man has been arrested by the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch for alleged involvement in abduction-cum-robbery cases. The police claim to have seized a stolen truck from him.

On Monday, the Inter-State Cell received a tip-off that a criminal, Fakruddin, would come to Seemapuri in North-East Delhi to dispose of a stolen truck. Subsequently a trap was laid and the suspect was arrested.

Three arrested on theft charge

NEW DELHI: Three persons have been arrested by the Crime Branch at Mangolpuri in North-West Delhi in connection with a robbery at Rajouri Garden in West Delhi this past February.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sanjay Kumar, Baldev and Chandrapal.

Alleged drug peddler held

NEW DELHI: An alleged drug peddler has been arrested by the Crime Branch at Anand Vihar in East Delhi. The police claim to have recovered 1 kg of heroin worth Rs.1 crore in the international market from his possession.

During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Abdul Aziz and allegedly disclosed that he had bought the consignment from one Khajjan, who is a big supplier of drugs.
