The concept of neighbourhood newspaper is slowly catching up in Kochi. `Tripunithura News' is the new addition and this bilingual tabloid has made a beginning coming out on Sundays with local news and classified advertisements.

The promoters behind the venture have modest ambitions — of reaching local titbits and a slice of life as it is lived out in the suburb. The historic past of Tripunithura, its cultural ethos, traits of people, and major landmarks find mention in the columns of this tabloid. There are some glaring errors in syntax and grammar, but for a beginner, these are pardonable and one should laud the spirit behind the venture. It would fill a long-felt need provided the persons behind the noble venture live up to the expectations of the reading public.
