Elected to Kodagu planning committee

The BJP has won five seats, the Congress three and the Janata Dal (Secular) two

MADIKERI: Elections for the Kodagu district planning committee was held here on Thursday. The BJP bagged five seats of the 10, followed by the Congress with three seats and the Janata Dal (S) two seats.

As per a decision of the Congress and the BJP to share the seats between them, the parties had decided to make it a tame affair, but one of the Congress candidates, M.K. Nanjappa, caste his vote which made the elections inevitable. However, at the end, the expected results did emerge.

As many as 21 zilla panchayat members of the 29 exercised their franchise.

The returning officer and chief executive officer of the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat Sundar Nayak announced the winners as Kanjithanda Anitha (19 votes) Manu Muthappa (19) Kellira Darmaja (19) K.C. Minukumar (15) and M. Gopal (19 votes) all from the BJP.

Those who were elected from the Congress are Dhirgakeshi Shivanna (18 votes) Sanjaya Jivijaya (18) and Chambanda Karuna Kalaiah (19). The Janata Dal (S) candidates who have won are K.R. Sundaramma (19 votes) and P.B. Manjula (18 votes).
