Pondicherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said here on Thursday that the police force would be modernised with an outlay of Rs.66 crore available from the Centre. He told this to newsmen on the sidelines of the centenary celebration of "Vande Mataram" at the PCC office. He said he had informed during the course of the State Chief Ministers' meet held on September 5 at New Delhi that Pondicherry had been a peaceful State and that there were no communal skirmishes. Pondicherry had also been free from terrorist activities. He said the strength of the police force would be increased. Stating that developmental activities in Pondicherry had been gaining momentum, Mr. Rangasamy said that very soon a port project in Karaikal would be launched. Presently a fishing harbour with an investment of Rs.37 crore was under construction there. When his attention was drawn to the chaos caused by bomb threat on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said he had asked the police to intensify the investigation and initiate stern action against the troublemaker.
