Government forms project implementation unit

This is in response to Centre's directive

Pondicherry: Pondicherry administration has constituted a project implementation unit (PIU) in keeping with the directives of the Union Home Ministry to coordinate and implement schemes contemplated under the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation (NCRM) Project.

An official communication said here on Thursday that the Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi had constituted the unit.

The NCRM project was aimed at achieving sustainable cyclone risk reduction in the country through construction of cyclone shelters, shelter belt plantations, mangrove regeneration, construction of embankments to stop sea water inundation, construction of missing road links and commission of technical studies to sustain these initiatives.

The Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner of Pondicherry was appointed the Project Director of the PIU.
