West Indies embarks on a long trip

BRIDGETOWN: West Indies left for a tri-series in Malaysia on Wednesday and won't be seen at home until it hosts the cricket World Cup next March.

It will play against India and Australia in limited-overs matches in Malaysia and then travel to India to defend its Champions Trophy crown.

Following that is a tour of Pakistan in November and December for three Tests and five one-dayers.

Next January, West Indies will be in India for five limited-overs matches, part of the team's preparations for the World Cup in March and April.

West Indies then visits England from May to July, playing four Tests, three ODIs and two Twenty20 matches.

The next stop then is South Africa in September 2007 for the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup. The team will then have Tests and one-day series in Zimbabwe and South Africa from October to December.

"It's going to be a very, very big year for West Indies cricket, a huge year," Zorol Barthley, cricket operations manager of the West Indies Cricket Board, said on Wednesday.

"We will be hosting the World Cup and if that was all we had planned, that would be a big year." — AP
