PARADIP: In continuation with the relief work carried out by the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) on Tuesday, cooked food, drinking water and medicines were supplied to 8,000 flood-affected people in marooned areas of Marsaghai and Malkalpada. Secretary for rural development and in-charge of flood relief operations, S.N. Tripathy, visited the relief centre of PPT at the employees recreation club in the morning. He inspected the preparation of food by the volunteers under the supervision of PPT officers. Deputy Chairman of PPT, Subrat Tripathy, explained the functioning of the relief centre. Port officers, employees and members of Paradip Sakhyarata Samiti have been engaged in preparing cooked food and packing of relief materials and drinking water in pouches. In the morning cooked food, drinking water and medicines were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard for airdropping as per the directions of Mr. Tripathy.
Mobile book fair
As part of the golden jubilee year celebrations, the first mobile book fair organised by the National Book Trust of India was inaugurated at Paradip Port on Wednesday. Attending the inaugural function held at Jayadev Sadan, Deputy Chairman of PPT, Subrat Tripathy, stressed on children reading the book by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru `Letter to a Daughter' to understand the essence of Indian culture. PPT Secretary, P.K. Nanda, gave the welcome address and said that PPT would continue its patronage for the development of book culture.
