VIZIANAGARAM: CPI(M) district committee secretary M. Krishna Murthy has sought the suspension of Project Officer of ICDS for alleged irregularities in recruitment of workers for additional anganwadi centres in the district. He told a press conference on Thursday that irregularities in the appointment of anganwadi workers had come to light during a survey in Pachipenta, Salur, Ramabhadrapuram, Padalapeta, Guruvunaidupeta, Mathumuru, etc. He said workers of early child education (ECS) centres that were being closed must be given preference. But due to political pressure, they were denied opportunity. Ineligible persons were recruited instead, he alleged.
YSR's directive
This was pointed out to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy during his visit to Baguvalasa on May 12 this year. The Chief Minister had instructed the district Collector to order an inquiry into the allegations. The Collector then appointed the Project Director of DRDA as the inquiry officer, he said. But the inquiry had not begun even after three and half months, Mr. Murthy charged.
