Dares Marketing Minister for debate on rehabilitation package

  • Project work, including canals, is not yet completed, says party leader
  • Minister accused of making false statements on rehabilitation

VIZIANAGARAM: The CPI(M) district committee has appealed to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to postpone his proposed inauguration of Peddagedda reservoir project on September 10 as the project work, including canals, is not completed.

At a press conference here on Thursday, party district secretary M. Krishna Murthy said that according to irrigation officials, the works would be completed by February 27. At present, water through the Karrivalasa anicut could be released for the existing ayacut. There was no need for releasing water for additional ayacut as farmers under the project had already raised ID crops, he said. He criticised Minister for Marketing B. Satyanarayana for making false statements on rehabilitation of 86 families displaced by the project.

He dared the Minister for a debate on rehabilitation package. The rehabilitation of affected families was at preliminary stage, he said and added that the economic survey of tribals of Kesali, Kotukupenta, Kodikallavalasa, Thatipadu and Diguvakummarivalasa was yet to be completed.

Though each tribal family of Madavalasa was issued pattas for two acres of land at Saraivalasa a year ago, they were not given possession of the land till date, he said. The Minister had recently announced that the Madavalasa tribals would be given lands after purchasing them.

The Left party leader recalled that tribals of Pedachipuruvalasa, Chinachipuruvalasa, Pandirimavudivalasa, Kuddadivalasa and other villages, who were affected by the Vengalarayasagar project in 1988 and assured of three acres of land by the then government had not been given lands.

He said the party had already decided to stall the inauguration of the project.
