Ragging case: 15-day remand for 5 students

Special Correspondent

Srikakulam: Judge Mary Grace on Thursday remanded five engineering students of GMR Information Technology Institute at Rajam, facing charges under the Prevention of Ragging Act, 1997, till September 21.

Accused students — D. Vijaya Bhaskar, T. Ravi, Krishna Chaitanya, Y. Yerraiah and T. Ramesh — were produced in the court of Junior Civil Judge, Rajam, 40 km from here. The students, who were arrested on Wednesday, were shifted to the sub-jail at Palakonda. The other accused in the sensational ragging case, Santosh, a native of Jamshedpur, is still at large.

The accused students had allegedly subjected complainants to sexual harassment on Monday and Tuesday. According to the police, the accused students had `ordered' another student to record the acts of ragging in a cellphone camera, which was seized by the police.
