Operational problem delays flight

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: An Air-India flight, AI 925, bound for Riyadh in Saudi Arabia from the Karipur airport was delayed for over 24 hours owing to an operational problem.

The flight was scheduled to leave at 2.45 p.m. on Wednesday but took off at 4.45 p.m. on Thursday, Airport Director M. Veeraswamy said.

Air-India Kozhikode manager Sunil Deshmukh said that the delay in departure was on account of "aircraft rotation problem" and not technical snag.

"We knew about the problem on Tuesday and officials informed the passengers about the delay. However, some of them could not be contacted, as they had not left their telephone numbers. Fifty-five of them turned up at the airport. Necessary accommodation was given to these passengers," Mr. Deshmukh said.Over 300 passengers were to board the flight from the airport.

About 125 passengers were also to board the same flight from the Thiruvananthapuram airport. They were provided accommodation in the State capital.

All of them left on Thursday. The flight operated on the route Thiruvananthapuram-Calicut-Riyadh, he said. Mr. Veeraswamy said that the "stranded passengers" attempted to create noise at the airport. But the police and the internal security of the airport tried to pacify them.
