`Dalits denied opportunities'

Ayyankali Jayanti celebrations opened

KOLLAM: Kerala Dalit Federation president P. Ramabhadran has said that denial of opportunities hinders the overall progress of the Dalits.

He was inaugurating the 142nd Ayyankali Jayanti celebrations here on Wednesday.

He alleged that some of the political parties were following a strategy of isolating those with talent and instead promoting sycophants.

``Valmiki who wrote the Ramayana and B.R. Ambedkar who wrote the Constitution were Dalits.'' It was because they got opportunities that their capabilities became known, he added.
