Chambakulam Chundan wins Sree Narayana Trophy

Four snakeboats and four `thekkanodis' participated



STIFF COMPETITION: A scene from the Kannetti boat race held at Karunagapally on Thursday.

KOLLAM: The Sree Narayana Trophy of the 67th Kannetti boat race held at Karunagapally on Thursday was bagged by the snakeboat Chambakulam Chundan. A team from the Town Boat Club led by S. Praveen Kumar manned the boat.

The second prize went to the boat Sree Ganesh from the Priyadarshini Boat Club and it was captained by Munambathu Shihab.

The third prize went to the boat Jawahar Thayangiri captained by K.S.K. Ratnakumar.

Hundreds of people witnessed the race, which began at 3.45 p.m. on the Kannetti Lake.

A public meeting organised on the occasion was inaugurated by Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran.

Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran inaugurated the water festival and the boat race.

In all, four snakeboats and four `thekkanodis' participated in the race. CPI(M) leader M.K. Bhaskaran distributed the prizes.
