HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has categorically said that the Government has no intention of releasing more than 44,000 cusecs to Rayalaseema from the Pothireddypadu head regulator at the cost of other regions. Speaking to reporters who met him here on Thursday, Dr. Reddy said apprehensions of some MLAs in this regard were unfounded. "There is no question of increasing the capacity of the head regulator beyond 44,000 cusecs. The capacity of the present regulator is only 11, 000 cusecs. Hence, new sluices are being built. Once that is over, the old ones will be closed forever," he said. He said a distorted version was being circulated by those who did not understand the issue. "There is no need for anyone to be worried over it. There is no way regular flow can be diverted." Dr. Reddy added the decision to increase the discharge to 44,000 cusecs was taken after an all-party meet. "In keeping with the decision, the regulator capacity is being increased. It is not to harm the interests of other regions," he said.
