HYDERABAD: Days after its leaders quit the UPA Government at the Centre, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will begin its agitation to expose the Congress with a major public meeting at Siddipet in Medak district on Friday. Party leaders are pinning hopes that there will be an overwhelming response to the meeting from all parts of Telangana. Hundreds of tractors and trucks were reportedly hired to shift the crowds from remote villages.
Supporters' show
Groups of supporters of separate Telangana also set off to the venue on Thurday by padayatra, bicycle and motorcycle shows. The party will follow up this rally with another one at Parkal in Warangal district on September 25. Party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has chosen Siddipet to launch his renewed campaign demanding separate Telangana for sentimental reasons. It was in this town on April 27, 2001, that he performed pooja and set off to Hyderabad to resign from the primary membership of the Telugu Desam and as MLA of Siddipet and Deputy Speaker of Assembly. He also announced the launch of TRS at the same time. Mr. Rao expects a crowd at Siddipet that would be in excess of the one that turned up for the first public meeting of the TRS at Karimnagar in May 2001. A resolution demanding statehood to Telangana would be adopted on the occasion. They say the groundswell in support for separate Telangana following the resignation of Mr. Rao and A. Narendra from the Union Cabinet would be on display.
