PALAKKAD: Two farmers, one at Chittur and the other at Nemmara, committed suicide allegedly due to huge debts to banks. Rehima Bivi (60), wife of Kasim of Chemparamada at Kanakkumpara in Chittur, was found hanged in a sari in her house on Thursday morning. She owned an acre of agriculture land and had taken Rs.30,000 from the Kanakkumpara Service Cooperative Society one and a half years ago to buy fertilizers. She could not pay back the amount ever getting the notice from the society, it is said. She was living alone. Her husband and two sons are living separately, the police said. In the other incident, Paulose Kurian (67) of Kunnathu Veedu, Chathamangalam, near Nemmara, was found hanging on a cashew tree in his neighbour's compound on Thursday, the police said. He had taken a loan for Rs.5 lakh from three banks to buy a tractor and to meet other agriculture needs.
