PATRIOTIC FERVOR: Children of De Paul Residential School in Mysore presenting a dance programme to mark the centenary celebrations of singing of Vande Mataram, in Mysore on Thursday.
MYSORE: Students and public alike in the city joined their counterparts across the country in singing Vande Mataram on Thursday to mark the centenary celebrations of the song first recited during the freedom struggle. The students recited the song at 11 a.m. in most educational institutions across the city following directions from the Government.
Functions
According to sources in the Education Department, only two stanzas were recited by students in many schools according to the instruction given by the Government. Students took part in the functions that marked the celebrations.
Talk
The Mahajana Educational Institutions organised a talk on "Vande Mataram - A peep into the history" to mark the occasion. Students of De-Paul International Residential School gave a dance performance highlighting the importance of patriotism. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party organised mass singing of Vande Mataram in public places in the city. Mysore MP C.H. Vijayshankar and MLC Thontadarya joined the public in singing the patriotic song at Gandhi Square.
