CHENNAI: D. Sudarsanam, leader of the Congress Legislature Party, who has been appointed Deputy-Chairman of the Third Police Commission, is yet to take charge of the post. The reason? The office of profit controversy. The State Government recently constituted the Third Police Commission under the chairmanship of R. Poornalingam, a retired IAS Officer. Before accepting the post, Mr. Sudarsanam wanted to know whether the Deputy Chairman post was an office of profit. Ministers, MPs and MLAs are not allowed to hold any office of profit as it will automatically lead to disqualification of their seat in the legislature or Parliament. When Mr. Sudarsanam contacted the Elections Department here, the response was that the issue could be clarified only by the Election Commission. Subsequently Mr. Sudarsanam has written to the Commission and is yet to get a reply. Mr.Sudarsanam said he would take charge only after it was cleared by the Election Commission.
