JAIPUR: Japanese automobile giant Nissan may set up a manufacturing unit in Rajasthan's Neemrana industrial area in Alwar district. The company, which has plans for investing 1.5 billion US dollars in India, proposes to manufacture 3.6 lakh cars a year at its India unit. Among the auto majors in Japan others being Toyota, Honda and Suzuki only Nissan is left without a manufacturing unit in India at present.
Talks with CM
Takeshi Isayama, vice-president of Nissan Motors Co. Pvt. Ltd., met Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in New Delhi two days ago and held discussions with her. Kamal Vijayvargiya, an NRI of Rajasthani origin living in Tokyo, told The Hindu that the State Government had offered 1,100 acres of land in Neemrana for the proposed Nissan unit. Neemrana is now in the national Capital Region (NCR) along the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway. Nissan's proposal is to export 70 per cent of the cars manufactured here to the European countries. Mr. Isayama met the State's Industries Minister Narpat Singh Rajvi here on Thursday. Japanese investments would contribute towards strengthening the bond between the two countries, Mr. Isayama said. Mr. Isayama planted a "kadamb" sapling at the art gallery named after the late painter Padmashri Ramgopal Vijayvargiya here. On the occasion he expressed his company's concern over environmental issues worldwide.
Pivotal role
Mr. Vijayvargia, who has played a pivotal role in bringing Japanese investments to India, said the Japanese were keen on investing in India and the results of their explorations for investment opportunities in this country would be visible soon. There was also a proposal for Ms. Raje and Mr. Rajvi to visit Japan this coming October with a group of senior officials from the State, he said.
