Low-key affair in West Bengal
Kolkata:
Barring the singing of Vande Mataram by a handful of BJP workers and a few lawyers in the city's lower courts, recital remained by and large a low-key affair in West Bengal.
Though there was no Government notification making it mandatory for students to sing the song, in some schools, particularly in the rural areas, the students began their classes by enthusiastically singing the song. Some advocates in the sessions court also began their day's briefing by singing the song.

None at Bankim Bhavan, the birthplace of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in North 24 Parganas district sang the song. UNI

With Sikkim observing a holiday on the occasion of Phang Lhabsol, an annual festival in obeisance to the Kanchenjunga, there was no singing of Vande Mataram on Thursday.
