HYDERABAD: Minister for Tourism J. Geeta Reddy, on Thursday called upon spouses of policemen to be dynamic in taking up welfare programmes.

Delivering the keynote address at `Jagruti', the first conference of spouses of police leaders at Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA) at Himayatsagar here, she said the police personnel, who lead the society in many ways, should be people-friendly instead of their `harsh' behaviour.

Home Minister K. Jana Reddy inaugurated the conference.

`Talks with Maoists'

Speaking to reporters later he said the State Government was still hopeful of renewing talks with Maoists. He said Maoists should also shun violence and arms to create conducive atmosphere for holding talks.

To a question, he said Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy would take a final decision on the Cabinet reshuffle.

The Minister also underscored the need for educating police personnel on the welfare activities launched by the department.

Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen, IG (Welfare) Tejdeep Kaur Menon and other senior officials attended the conference.
