CELESTIAL PHENOMENON: Stages of the lunar eclipse viewed in Bangalore on Thursday-Friday.
New Delhi:
India, among many other countries, witnessed a partial lunar eclipse that lasted more than 90 minutes on Thursday night, spanning into Friday. The celestial phenomenon attracted considerable attention from star-gazers.
The clear weather facilitated viewing in different centres including Delhi, where telescopes were set up on the lawns of the Nehru Planetarium at Teen Murti Bhavan, as the shadow of the earth crept over the lunar disc from the northern side at 11.35 p.m.
Only 18 per cent of the lunar disc fell under the shadow of the earth. While the eclipse was is in progress, a faint star named ``H Aquarius'' (from the Aquarius constellation) moved behind the moon and reappeared from the other side.
