Career in computer science `bright'

Seminar throws light on `distributed systems'


  • It facilitates data sharing through wider network
  • Students advised to follow emerging technologies in the field

    VIJAYAWADA: Experts at a seminar on `Distributed systems' organised at Siddhartha Auditorium here on Friday underscored the importance of studying latest advancements in computer science so that students would draw more benefits on the career and research fronts.

    The PG Department of Computer Science of P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Science and Vijayawada Chapter of Computer Society of India (CSI) jointly organised the seminar.

    D. Janaki Ram, professor of Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, said that a day would come soon when computers would become a basic requirement for all just as a telephone had turned out to be over the decades.

    Practical utility

    He pointed out that `distributed systems' was nothing but sharing of data through a wider network and it made possible dramatic advancements in computer science.

    Prof. Ram said that computing was just a standalone subject while its joint application with communication led to computer technology. He said that a large number of computers would be connected for sharing of information and development of this technology had opened wider avenues for practical use in a variety of organisations and situations.

    For example, railway reservations had gone online and became available at the click of a mouse, thanks to effective use of technological .

    Presiding over the seminar, Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education secretary N. Venkateswarlu said that students should closely follow emerging technologies and a study of computer science would indeed throw up a lot of challenges and opportunities. CSI Vijayawada Chapter chairman S. Krishna Rao said that `distributed systems' had a wider application in the days to come and it would offer great careers for students.
